Week 1 – w/c 31st Aug

Good morning everyone and welcome to Creative Design Year 2! We are all looking forward to working with you again this year. We hope you had a good summer break – did any of you visit any galleries or exhibitions over the summer or create any artwork?

We will start with some ice breakers so we can all learn a little more about each other. I will then move on to explaining your year 2 Extended Diploma course calendar and timetable, and reminding you of the standards for success, workshop rules and remote blended learning work. We will then discuss your induction project brief as a group.

During your induction project in 2D we will recap the different visual elements in Art & Design, test your knowledge and consider how other artists use visual elements in their own work through group discussion and your own practical experiments.

In Lesson Tasks

Speed Sketch and Ice Breaker Questions

Each person has 5 minutes to sketch their partner while asking:

1. Name one thing your teachers/ friends may not know about you (hidden talent, impressive skill, pets, celebrity relatives for example)?

2.What is your dream job?

3.Who is your favourite artist and why?

4. What is your biggest strength (can be personal or academic)?

5.What art pathway do you want to specialise in this year and why?

Standards for Success

Workshop Rules

-Be on time, every time

-Attend all lessons

-No hats, hoodies or coats

-Tidy up when you are finished/ end of the session & wash any paint brushes/ pallets used

-Be careful when using sharp/ dangerous/ heavy equipment – follow health & safety

-Respect your peers and staff members

-No eating or drinks (just water)

Induction Project Brief

This year’s induction project theme is ‘Order & Chaos’. In 2D we will consider the work of artists such as Jackson Pollock, Bridget Riley and Jean-Michel Basquiat and explore some of their techniques in your own experiments. Before embarking on these experiments, you will work in pairs to complete initial artist research, choosing an order & chaos artist from the list below. You will then each create a personal response to the artist and will put this together in a presentation and share your work to the class in week 3.
